Half Palette Half New Wood Coffee Table Update! With Pictures!!!

I have been feeling a little bit under the weather for the past couple of days, but nothing is going to rain on my woodworking parade!! After careful consideration I realized that I needed to add a finish nailer to my arsenal of tools. I thought of a corded one, but couldn't find one out here and none would ship to me, the cordless ones are way too expensive and I don't want to charge batteries all the time. So I settled on a pneumatic finish nailer. Now if you are like me and you have no clue what the hell pneumatic means, here is a quick explanation:3:48 AM theothersideofalex 0 Comments
It is a nail gun utilizing an air compressor to power the driving force of the nails.
So basically it is scary as hell and loud and well scary as hell.
I had to call in my wonderful and very smart husband to help me fully understand the usage procedures and of course safety measures.
After he and I sorted it all out I used it to attach my palette wood table top onto the pine sub top. It was awesome!
But before I did that I glued and screwed the planks together using my Kreg Jig Jr. and level 2 wood glue.
Here are some pictures of my progress thus far!
Of Course Safety First!
That is pretty damn flat for being palette wood! Now the next thing I will do is grab my new circular saw and trim the little bit of filler wood I had to use due to how much sanding needed to be done to make the planks as square as I could manage with the tools I have. Then a lot of sanding will happen on the top and the border. I think that I have I plan for the legs but again I am not sure! Sorry!!
I will be posting a video of my progress on this table on my second channel, it is a new channel so there isn't anything there yet but there will be, so go ahead and subscribe so you don't miss it!

Ok so this is for sure not a DIY blog, so if you are looking for that then keep looking!! This is sort of a collection of my life, the things that I do on the daily, monthly, and you guessed it, a yearly basis. I write this blog with a cup of coffee in my hands and loads of thoughts crammed into my head, please enjoy.12:33 AM theothersideofalex 0 Comments
For the last few months I have been picking palette wood and preparing it to use in some project down the line. Once I felt that I had accumulated enough wood to start and complete a project, I then set out on a long mission of picking and buying the best tools for my needs. I also I am lucky enough to have the world's most supportive and encouraging Dads and he bought lots of things for me I will mention of course which things he gave me!
Here is a list of the tools I picked up!
Square
Straight edge
Wood Pencils
Wood Glue 2nd and 3rd levels
Kregjig Jr.
Pocket Screws Standard Sizes (gift from my super amazing Dad) Thanks Papi!
2 10ft Clamps
Hammer
Phillips and Flat Head Screw Drivers
Tape Measure
Power Drill
Jig Saw
Set of Jig Saw Blades (gift from my awesome Dad!) Thanks Papi!!
Router Saw
Compound Miter Saw at 10"
Miter Saw Mobile Utility Bench
2 Orbital Sanders (One was a gift from my beautiful Dad!) Thanks Papi!
Sand paper varies Grits
5 Use Hack Saw
That is all that I can think of at the moment, if I left any out I will mention in future posts. I am not trying to teach anyone how to do anything, I am simply sharing with you what I have done and what I would like to do in the future.
After I gathered up all of the tools I felt were necessary to complete a project at a high quality and I had already collected quite a bit of wood, I set out on finding the best first project. I looked through pinterest and stumble, youtube and facebook and finally I decided to make none other than a coffee table!! Isn't that fitting to begin my independent woodworking journey with a freaking coffee table?! Of course it is, so about a week ago, maybe two, I started cutting down and prepping my salvaged palette wood, I ended up with 40" worth of 14 1/2" planks laid side by side. Does that make sense? Here is a quick picture of what I am trying to describe! I just spent like 20 minutes making that thing so please look at it for a few seconds!!
Now that you have an idea of what the table will look like from the top you will love to know that that isn't what I have been entirely working on today! About a week or so ago I rough cut those planks with my jig saw and laid out my plan for the whole table. I have the two big pieces of wood that I will attach these planks to and the four pieces that I will use to create the framing underneath the table's top.
Let me give you a run down of what I have done so far I have; assembled the frame using all pocket screws with my KregJig Jr.; glued pocked screwed the two pieces together with my level 2 wood glue and of course the Kreg Jig Jr.; final cut and squared all of the planks of wood that will be my table's top.
Tomorrow I will sand all of the pieces to get them ready for the final assembly. Now some of you might be thinking, what about the legs?, well some of you, I have not yet decided how I want the legs to look at all so for that I will be going with the flow.
For the finish I will be using a stain and polyurethane in an espresso dark shade to make the rest of my home's decor!
There will be real picture in my next update!!

Rogers Family Coffee
Review and Giveaway!!
I recently reached out to Rogers Family Coffee and they were so kind to send me samples of their amazing coffee. Before I get into the review of the three different coffees they sampled me with, I would like to give you a chance to get to know their brand and what Rogers Family Coffee is all about! Please click the link for mobile readers or click the video to better understand how Roger's Family Coffee is revolutionizing the way we brew, consume, and depose of coffee in the world.
Now that you have a better understanding of their mission for their coffee and their customers I will get into my review of the Single Serve Coffee that I have test tasted.
I was sent three different coffee flavors from their Single Serve Coffee line and a sample pouch of Raley's French Roast 100% Arabica Coffee Dark Roast, but for now I will just concentrate on the three Single Serve Coffees.
The first one that I tried out was Java Love, it is a Regular Roast coffee with a bold flavor. This is the kind of stuff I would reach for if I had an early morning appointment or an essay due and needed that punch of that exact right kind of coffee. This is that coffee that really helps you go that extra mile. I really enjoyed this particular flavor.
The second flavor that I tested was the Breakfast Blend also a Regular Roast coffee, but with a more balanced flavor that is neither overly bitter or sweet. I think they were correct in deeming this flavor Breakfast Blend. For me, I could enjoy this cup at any time of the day; no jitters. For the average coffee drinker this would be a great one to start with if you lie in the middle of the roast spectrum.
Now on to the final coffee I tried, Gorilla Decaf, is a Regular Roast as well. I have this habit of drinking coffee late at night. The warmth of a freshly brewed cup of coffee just makes me happy, but enjoying it late at night can have its draw backs. Enter Gorilla Decaf, a strong and pleasant coffee with no caffeine to keep you up at night. What is special about this is that it is decaffeinated using the Natural Water Process, which uses naturally found compounds in vegetables and fruits to transport the caffeine out of the coffee bean before roasting. This coffee has all the great flavor of coffee without the jitters, or sleepless nights.
Before I conclude this review I would like to point out that Rogers Family Coffee is all organic and over 97% biodegradable. This means that not only do they take great care in the way this coffee is grown, roasted and packaged, but you can be rest assured that your coffee addiction is isn't hurting the environment. At $6.99 per 12 count box you can't beat the quality or the price.
Rogers Family Coffee is a Hit for me.

I have been saving up for a couple of weeks now, so I am so excited to share this haul with you guys and girls! I have been using these products for a few days now and I have to say that I am just so pleased and happy that I finally got the things I really wanted. I bought these items in the smallest sized they come in just in case they didn't work for me, so lets get into what I think about each product.
I will start off with the eye shadow I picked out in Antiqued. It is a Veluxe Pearl, so from what I understand that means that it is a type of shimmer finish. I think it is just beautiful, the reason I picked this color is that I have very dark brown eyes nearly black in fact. I think the shimmer and red undertones of this color pull out the brown of my eyes more. Tell me what you think.
Moving on to the Pencil Brush, I think the prices of Mac Cosmetics are pretty steep, having said that. I think it is worth the money to get one brush you need that will last you years than many brushes over time. So I finally bit the bullet and bought a pencil brush. I actually didn't already own a pencil brush from any company so this purchase was a splurge for me and I am glad I did it. I think the quality is worth the price as I have already gotten a lot of great use out of this brush in particular.
At the check out there is this wall of 10$ items and I thought this would be a great way to test out some of their products without breaking my pre-set budget for the month. The first and most exciting of these items for me was the Fix+, this is a makeup medium, which means that you can use this product for many different purposes. The purpose I originally bought it for was to intensify the color of the eye shadows that I want to use. I have used it once so far and I think it does an amazing job at adding color pay off to your eye shadow. So far I am really enjoying this product. Next is the Oil Control Lotion, I have used this for two days now. The first day I used it under my makeup and I could tell that my face, after hours of having my full foundation makeup on, was oil free. I have combination to oily skin so I am so excited about this product mostly because I put it on my eye lids, where I am must oily, and my eye shadow didn't crease!!
The last product was a complete gamble product, a loose eye shadow pigment in the color Blue Brown. When the make up artist in my Mac Store showed me a swatch I just died! It is gorgeous! Let me take a picture and put it up really quick!
I love this color on me!
Isn't it just amazing! I love it!!

I have been using Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel for several weeks now. I really enjoy how fast this absorbs into my skin and leaves it soft all day.
I just bought the Cleansing Milk so I review will be coming of that once I have used it!

The Coffees I Have Been Enjoying Lately

The Coffees I Have Been Enjoying Lately
There are a few coffees that I would love to be drinking right now... But in the effort of being more conscious and drink what I have now, then buy new flavors later. The first coffee I would like to discuss is Casa Europa's Pumpkin Latte in a 12 oz pre-ground bag. I bought this from TJ Maxx for 4.99. Now I have had pumpkin flavored coffee before and there is a distinct taste that comes with it and this coffee didn't have it. I brewed it in my Keurig with my attachment that allows me to make my custom k-cup of any ground coffee I choose. This coffee was quite thin and watery. I brewed it once on the latte or cappuccino setting so the big cup button and with just a splash of creamer all color and nearly all flavor was stricken from the cup. I have about a third of the bag left and I am planning on finishing it hopefully I can figure out a way to make this coffee more flavorful. Despite its lack of a full body flavor, it does have a wonderful smell and it can be tolerated with a small amount of creamer.
Now the next couple of coffees are from the same brand, Cafe Escapes, and they are, from what I know, a Keurig Brand of coffee. The two flavors I have been enjoying are Cafe Mocha and Cafe Caramel. When I drink the Cafe Mocha I am brought back to a time when I was a nanny to a funny 8 year old girl and we used to play Coffee Shop and she and I would have coffee and hot chocolate. Her parents knew that all I needed for those long days at their house was a fully stocked coffee bar! Now I haven't been her nanny for some years now so when I drink this coffee I think of her and the fun we would have.
Cafe Caramel is a lighter and slightly sweeter flavor that I am a big fan of, however if you are someone that enjoys a robust bitter coffee I would stay away from the Cafe Escapes brand as a whole. For me though, I quite enjoy all levels of strength in coffees.
Now I present to you Dog Beast...
Cafe Escapes in Cafe Caramel
Cafe Escapes in Cafe Mocha
Casa Europa in Pumpkin Latte
He's going going...
And he is gone!

My Hair Disaster!

My Hair Disaster!
My hair story begins around Valentine's Day this year. I knew I had a big trip planned to go and visit my sister-in-law, so I wanted to get my hair done before I went there to show her. This is the look that I was going for...
And this is where I started...
After speaking with a hair stylist/dresser and showing her many pictures of what I wanted and her claiming to understand exactly what I wanted...
...I end up with this...
I wanted something low maintenance, a couple shades lighter over all, and then a lot of little highlights and low lights throughout the top and sides. The biggest thing was that I wanted it to blend up to the color of my natural hair so I wouldn't have a super harsh line.
I don't know what the hell she was thinking in her head!! She bleached my hair completely white!!!!!
I was just like that is going to dye a lot darker right? To which she replied, "oh you don't like the white?" I said NO I didn't ask for white or anything but 2 to 3 shades lighter than my dark brown and she told me she would fix it.
Well long story short I got my money back and the photo above is what it looked like after she tried a total of 3 times to fix it!
In the end I think she lacked the actually skills needed to accomplish the color that I asked for in the first place and I paid the price!
After the initial shock of it all and with my money in my hands I went to different salon and explained the entire story to the employees there. They were horrified of course. They were kind enough to see me right that moment and he dyed my hair an all over dark brown that was still lighter than my natural hair and he fixed it in one shot.
This is what my hair looked like just a week or so after getting it fixed...
At the point of this picture I had been deep conditioning my hair every single night. I had a promotion ceremony to go to for my brother-in-law, so this was the first time that I had done my hair since the disaster happened. I think it looks nice, but trust me if you had felt my hair it was like a broom!
I began trimming my own hair and going for a deep condition treatment at the salon that fixed my hair about once a month for a couple of months. I used my deep conditioner every day and I still do! After a little less than 4 months I have nearly gotten rid of all of the dead and fried hair. I will continue to deep condition every time I shower and trim my hair centimeter by centimeter until all of it is gone!
My plan for the future is to have a professional cut done for my Christmas present at a fancy salon!
I hope you girls and guys out there have better luck changing your hair than I did. I am fully traumatized by this and will most likely never color my hair again.
Don't forget to check out my newest video where I talk about My Hair Disaster!
